The 1.8-mile, 14-turn circuit incorporates streets of downtown St. Petersburg and a section of runway of Albert Whitted Airport.After the long frontstrecth, there's a tight right-hander into Turn 1 and then a quick left- hand turn. Plenty of drivers have gotten into trouble in these two turns over the years. There are two other long straights with braking zones that afford opportunities to overtake.

With four corners banked at 9 degrees, 12 minutes, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway drives more like a road course than an oval. But each of the corners is different. Each have different bumps, different wind. Turn 1 has its own mystique -- a leap of flat-out faith at 225 mph, 440 yards of difficulty. The straightaways are 5/8ths of a mile long -- time to catch your breath and dive into the next corner.

General Information: The Milwaukee Mile is the oldest continuously operating auto racing facility in the world, having hosted auto racing events since 1903.  The historic location provides a race that is special to many IndyCar fans.  A new promoter this year with a recognizable name, Andretti (Michael) Sports Marketing is working the event for 2012.  Track is located inside the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds.  Friday offers free grandstand seating for practice and qualifying.  Any grandstand seats offers a full view of the course.  Cooler and passout policies are still being finalized.  Prepare to pay for parking, whether on State Fairgrounds property or on a private lot outside.  Local vendors add spice and variety for food choices.  Fans requiring handicapped seating, must call for tickets, as the website ticket site cannot accommodate the request.

General Information:
Free shuttles are available from parking areas to Main Grandstand. Bank of America ATMs located at Raceway Café, Main Grandstand next to Winners Circle & at Turn 2 and Turn 10 restrooms. Little Racers Club available for kids 12 and under, call ticket no. for information. Track offers free child I.D. wristbands at Gate 1, Guest Services or at Information Booth behind Main Grandstands. Radio broadcast on 87.9 FM. No smoking in any seating areas. Will Call at Guest Services, Gate 1. Difficult facility for handicapped. Parking is excellent for handicapped, but unless ticket for main grandstand is secured, viewing of track would be a challenge, as much walking will be required with many elevation changes. Shade only in the Main Grandstand area. We recommend flying into Sacramento a smaller, friendlier airport. Although further in distance from the track, Sacramento is an easier drive as SanFrancisco Intl. is on the southern edge of the city and traffic northbound is difficult. Toll on Golden Gate Bridge (southbound only) is $6 for cars, $3 for motorcycles.

Make sure to check out the wineries in the area, including the Foyt Family Wines Tasting Room (about 3 miles north of the track) and the Andretti Winery which is in the vicinity. This area is beautiful and is surrounded by many wineries and dairy farms.

The natural-terrain course has it all to challenge drivers -- elevation changes, a tight right-hand Turn 12 leading onto the frontstretch, a Carousel turn that requires downshifting -- all packed into a scenic setting. With 160 ft. elevation change from highest to lowest point on course, 1600 acre facility.

The 2-mile oval plays host to the IZOD IndyCar Series for the first time since 2005 and under the lights for the first time.There have been four IZOD IndyCar Series races conducted at the venue that opened in 1997 and CART races held from 1997-2002.Originally know as California Speedway, on Feb. 21, 2008, the Automobile Club of Southern California became the title sponsor of the raceway, renaming it Auto Club Speedway.

Overall observation to area: The California Speedway is the youngest oval the series utilizes. Born in 1997, owned at birth by Roger Penske, this facility is a beautiful facility. Since sold to International Speedway Corporation, the California Speedway is just down the road from memories - Ontario Motor Speedway, used by USAC in the early 70s and the Riverside International Speedway. The track is located in Southern California, east of Los Angeles. It sits very close to freeways and utilizes a train stop on the backstretch to transport race fans from the sprawling areas of So. California.
